What NOT to Say to Insurance Companies After an Accident
Most accident victims talk to adjusters without realizing those conversations are evaluated for ways to reduce their payout.
"I'm fine." Even if you feel okay, adrenaline masks pain. Never characterize your condition — say you are seeking medical evaluation.
"I'm sorry" or "It was partly my fault." Apologies can be interpreted as admissions of liability.
"I don't have an attorney." This signals you may be easier to pressure into a low settlement.
"I need to settle quickly." Expressing urgency gives the adjuster leverage to make a lowball offer.
When in doubt, say you need to consult with your attorney first. That is always a safe response.
